Vata

  • Vata is associated with 'Gati,' or movement.
  • Involved in all aspects of bodily development and growth.
  • It is distinguished by its dry, rough, light, cool, down-to-earth, and versatile characteristics.
  • Bones, joints, sensory organs, brain, and nerve tissues are the primary sites.
  • Vata hours are 2 a.m. - 6 a.m.
  • During vata time, the nervous system is most active, resulting in daydreams and restlessness.

Pitta

  • Pitta is associated with fire.
  • Absorption and digestion capacities are involved.
  • Slick, sharp, hot, light, moving, fluid, and acidic characteristics.
  • The small digestive tract, stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, blood, eyes, and sweat are the main sites.
  • Pitta hours are from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • The Pitta period is when our digestive fire is at its peak.

Kapha

  • Kapha is associated with building and shaping.
  • Involved in providing the body with the physical structure.
  • Damp, cool, substantial, dull, delicate, clingy, and static characteristics
  • Chest, throat, lungs, head, lymph, lymph tissue, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments are the most common sites.
  • 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. is Kapha time.
  • The energy is heavier, slower, and denser during the Kapha period.

Rajas

  • Rajas are energising psychological dosha.
  • Gives pleasure, but due to its unbalanced nature, it quickly leads to pain and suffering.
  • Creates a state of disequilibrium that disrupts an existing balance.

Tamas

  • Tamas is an impulsive dosha.
  • Has a forbidding disposition, and is intellectual.
  • Repulsive in behaviour and dietetic habits.
  • Is lazy, devoted solely to the business of eating, and mentally deficient.
